SpellPack Privacy Policy

The short version: SpellPack collects nothing. There are no
accounts, no ads, no tracking, and no analytics. Everything your child does
stays on your iPad. Your child's voice and handwriting are processed entirely
on the device and are never recorded, stored, or sent anywhere.
Who this is for
SpellPack is a spelling-practice app designed for children (ages 6–8) and the
grown-ups who help them. This policy explains exactly what the app does and
does not do with information. It applies to the SpellPack iPad app published
by the developer (“we”, “us”).
Information we collect
None. SpellPack does not collect, transmit, or share any
personal information from anyone, including children. Specifically:
- No account, sign-in, name, email, or contact details are required or requested by us. (You may type a child's first name to personalise the app — this is stored only on your device and is never sent to us or anyone else.)
- No advertising, no ad networks, no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.
- No location, contacts, photos, or device identifiers are accessed for tracking.
Where your child's work is stored
All learning data — practice sessions, spelling results, stars, handwriting,
and the in-app companion (“Buddy”) — is stored locally on your iPad using
Apple's on-device database. It never leaves the device through SpellPack. If
you use Apple's standard device backup (iCloud or your computer), that backup
is controlled by you and governed by
Apple's Privacy Policy, not by us.
Microphone & speech
SpellPack can listen when your child reads a word aloud, to check their
pronunciation. This uses Apple's on-device speech recognition only —
the audio is analysed on your iPad and is never recorded, saved, or sent to
any server (ours or Apple's). If a device cannot perform on-device
recognition, the listening feature is simply skipped rather than sending audio
anywhere. The microphone is used only while a listening activity is active.
Handwriting
Handwriting written with Apple Pencil or a finger is recognised on the device
using Apple's on-device Vision technology, to check spelling. Handwriting
stays on the device and is not transmitted.
Children's privacy
SpellPack is designed to be safe for children and complies with the U.S.
Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the EU GDPR provisions
for children. Because we collect no personal information at all, there is
nothing for us to misuse, sell, or disclose. There are no behavioural ads and
no third-party data sharing. Links that lead outside the app (such as this
page) are placed behind a parental gate.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page. Since
the app collects no data, any changes will be minor.
